In an essay of at least 500 words, maximum 1,500 words, please address the following:

1. Introduce yourself and your chosen discipline of study. What is it that inspired you to make this career choice?

2. Select two thematic topics and one question from each, that interest you most. Describe how these thematic topics and the questions could be paired to address cross-disciplinary issues related to global environmental change, and pose a new research question.

3. Discuss briefly why these particular projects interest you, and what qualities you have that would enable you to pursue these lines of research (Note: specific projects may not be available).

4. Describe your interests in the overall theme of this IRES. What are your career goals, and how will participation in this IRES project help you make progress?

Part V: Academic/Professional References

Two Academic References letters must be sent / emailed by your endorser directly to chile@unt.edu. The letters must be received by the application deadline and must address the following:

1. How do you know the student academically/professionally?

2. Characterize the student's involvement in clubs, activities, academic or professional, societies, coursework, or internships.

3. Do you believe the student has a sincere interest in biocultural conservation research or a related field?

4. Do you feel this student has potential to be a leader in their discipline?

5. Do you have any reservations about this student? (maturity to handle being away, ability to get along with others, flexibility, adaptability, etc.)
